Paula, congratulations on passing your exam! Your dual study program is now complete. What can you imagine by that?
The course is offered by the IHK in cooperation with Münster University of Applied Sciences. As the name suggests: The course combines two areas — one practical and one theoretical. You do the practical part in a company, you learn the theory at a university of applied sciences.
What I thought was great: You get a fixed timetable for the theory units. This helps immensely to reconcile work and study.
During my studies, I completed three degrees: First the degree as an office management assistant, then the business administration exam and finally I completed my bachelor's examination in business administration.
Dual studies are very demanding. Why did you choose this training path?
In fact, I didn't know right from the start which training path I wanted to take. I've just started studying. But I quickly realized that I lacked the practical connection. At some point I stumbled across the term “dual study.” And the more I learned about it, the more it became clear to me: That's it!
So in 2018, you began your training at ECON TEL. Why did you choose ECON TEL?
The first thing that impressed me was the application process: Everything was quick, transparent and structured. Right from the first conversation, I had the feeling that I was welcome. Even the first time I set foot in the company, I immediately felt at ease. The training and interaction with my new colleagues has convinced me that I have found the right company that will support me with my dual studies. And now, three years later, I can only say one thing: The first impression has come true!
You worked and studied at the same time. A real challenge!
Yes, it was! With the support of ECON TEL, however, this was easily achieved. Both I and ECON TEL were in a situation that we both did not know before: I was the first dual student in the company. I particularly liked the support from my colleagues, who have accompanied me through this time. Whenever I had questions, they listened to me, were flexible when designing my work, and together we always found a solution.
Please tell us about your tasks in the company.
In March 2018, I started processing our customer projects by telephone. Here I had the opportunity to get to know our core business.
My training began in the project administration department. I wrote project books, prepared evaluations and presentations for customer meetings and worked with our customer system.
In accounting, I was trained in all areas of responsibility that include both financial and payroll accounting.
You had insight into several departments at ECON TEL — and are now staying in the area of financial and payroll accounting. What exactly got you excited about this job?
The longer I studied, the more my interests became apparent: On the one hand, I realize that I enjoy financial subjects a lot. On the other hand, I learned in the company that I enjoy administrative tasks. That's how the decision was made to stay in accounting.
The rest was pure coincidence: There will soon be a vacancy in the department — I will take over this position.
You're really happy with your decision! Would you recommend a dual course of study?
Definitely yes! It was a very good decision for me. I can recommend the training path to anyone who is not in the mood for dry theory at university and wants to put what they have learned directly into practice. It's a completely different feeling when you're sitting in a lecture and, thanks to practical experience in the company, you have a picture right in front of you.
In addition, future students at ECON TEL now have another contact person thanks to me. I would be delighted to support future employees on their way to their professional career.
